Labour hold Warrington North

Well, it was a long shot. 55.1% of people turned out to vote, the vote breakdown was this:

  • 21,632 Helen Jones. Labour. Swing -8.2%
  • 9,428 Andrew Ferryman. Conservative. Swing +0.5%
  • 7,699 Peter Walker. Liberal Democrat. Swing +5.6%
  • 1,086 Jack Kirkham. UK IP. Swing +0.7%
  • 573 Other. Swing +1.4%

So the labour candidate won, whilst losing a considerable amount of votes to both the lib dem’s and the conservatives, but not enough to cause any panic.

I’m still glad I voted, whilst it looks likely that labour will have a record third term in office (a feat they have never done before), they need to realise that they need to listen to the people.

Voting.

I went on my lunchtime to do my civic duty and vote. I voted Lib Dem. I hope we get a Lib Dem goverment in Warrington. It has been a labour council since the family moved here when I was 9 (18 years ago). I hope the great unwashed actually bother to turn-out and vote.

I doubt they will get a majority into parliament, but if they can claim 20 more seats, i’ll be happy for them.

I’ll stay up tonight and watch it unfold on TV live, always a pleasure to see John Snow and his Swing-o-meter (oo-er).

Who should I vote for?

April 14th, 2005 Slick2097 Posted in Politics-General Election No Comments »

Your expected outcome: Labour

Your actual outcome:

Labour -24
Conserv’ -47
LibDem 70
UK IP -12
Green 12

You should vote: Liberal Democrat

The LibDems take a strong stand against tax cuts and a strong one in favour of public services: they would make long-term residential care for the elderly free across the UK, and scrap university tuition fees. They are in favour of a ban on smoking in public places, but would relax laws on cannabis. They propose to change vehicle taxation to be based on usage rather than ownership.

Take the test at Who Should You Vote For

How very interesting, i’d always taken myself as a labour sort of man, now it seems i’m a liberal. Maybe someone slipped me some liberal pills when I wasn’t looking :/ Not too keen on the softening of the laws on cannabis, i’d sooner they toughened them up personally.
