A few weeks since my last blog entry …
Well its been three weeks now since I last made a blog entry it seems, so here is a blog entry.
It’s been a manic few weeks in work, what with the hospital opening for patients, the first operations being performed tomorrow (monday) and a few of my colleagues going off sick or on holiday for various reasons. The team is this, Russell is the IM&T Manager, Nigel is IT Operations Manager and reports into Russell. Ruth is the Report Analyst and reports into Russ. Andrew and myself are both IT Support, and report into Nigel.
Andrew broke his ankle 3 weeks ago now I think, and has been off since then. Nigel has been off for a week from last monday, and I think the time off may extend into this week too (I don’t know why he’s off, it’s none of my business anyway). So our team of 5 (only really 3 IT bods) is down to 3 (one IT bod … me). Ruth is helping out where she can but she should really be concentrating on her job and not IT. Russell has been helping out as much as he can possibly help and so we are muddling through. It’s a stressful environment at the moment, with more work than hours in the day. As such on friday night Russell and I went in for a few extra hours (10:30pm – 3:30am) to help bring the list of jobs to be done down to an easier to manage size.
So at the moment, i’m a bit stressed, as i’m in my probation period. I don’t want to lose my job as I want some money in the bank account at the moment. So I feel a need to perform 100% every day, and that is tiring me out a bit at the moment. The drive to and from the office every day is also a bit tiring, but thats to be expected, whereas my old commute was 5 minutes .. this is 25 – 30 depending on traffic. I pity those people who have to travel 30+ minutes every day.
Anyway, back to talking about work… It seems that everyone wants something doing now (as usual), also we have inductions which we legally have to attend (something to do with the HCC people). So time management will be crucial next week and no doubt it will be another stressful week. Who’d work in IT I ask ya!
Mike, you may want to skip this paragraph as its footy related… No pub quiz on tuesday as there is some small football game being played beween M&S and Ikea (England v’s Sweden). Its a grudge game to see who finishes top of the group and who finishes 2nd. Personally I don’t mind as on our day, england can beat any team in the world .. I just hope we have one of those days all the way to the final.
Umm, I can’t think of anything else to say so i’ll stop typing now.

Sounds interesting if stressful, well at least you are keeping busy, nothing worse than getting into a workplace and having nothing to do, yeah it might be ok for a couple of weeks but it isn’t long before you want to get the hell out.
The footy result was kind of expected, but not really a bad result, we won the group.

you get used to the hour plus drive in the morning, gives me time to wake up
and the gut to prepare for the bacon, egg and beans
perhaps see if you can find some alternate routes in, not essentialy shorter or quicker but more interesting, if nothing more it means you don’t always have to do the same route day in day out, and can change your scenery as you feel.

Well as for driving times, mine varies from 30 minutes to 1hr and 20 mins, depending on if some A-Hole has broken down or had an accident.
Footy, well Australia is into the last 16 woohooo!!!! go aussie go!!!. Not that I support footie, more of a Rugby Union an occaisonaly League, much prefer Aussie rules.
Work load and Probationary periods – love em or hate, ya gotta do em, just got out of mine and yep being kept on – FINALLY!
